When a client asks about "that bee exemption," I can help.
I'm Nathan Exley, a beekeeper since 2005 and a Texas A&M rangeland ecologist, based in Waco. I build and keep bee yards on other people's land in Central Texas.
What I do for your client
- I help your clients satisfy the county's specific ag valuation requirements around beekeeping.
- I do the site visit at no charge.
- I'll tell them if bees aren't a good fit.
- I don't file for anyone, and I don't give tax advice. The appraisal district decides.
Who fits
- Five to twenty acres, with five of the last seven years in agricultural use: a Bee Yard.
- Larger tracts already under an agricultural valuation: a wildlife management plan built around native pollinators.
- Clients who'd rather keep bees themselves: a Starter Apiary, with two years of mentoring.
- Under five acres: bees can't carry a valuation, and I'll say so plainly. Bees still fit a small place, though: a Starter Apiary works there, and the free pollinator guide helps with planting.
The public explainer your client can read first: the bee "ag exemption" in Texas.
